anyone shoot both G17 and G34?

does the g34 actually feel much different than the g17 while shooting? I mean its just the g34 has part of the front/top of the slide cut out simply to reduce weight on the gun and its not going to effect how you feel recoil with the gun. if its just a sight radius thing maybe i should just get the 17 because im going to get sights and trigger for it anyways. ? just wondering

same thing i was wondering about the G22/G35 like with uspsa/idpa am i going to gimp myself at all by getting the 22 instead of the 35 for competition

i was thinking about getting both

The reason for the cut is that if you add that much more steel to the slide you can start impacting the reliability, as the Glock 17 was engineered to operate with a slide weight of X plus or minus margin of error.

I've got a 19 and a 34 and I do well with both but the benefit is that extra sight radius that helps everyone else out. Besides that it is remarkably similar.

i dont get this. if they thought the slide was too heavy then they would reduce the recoil spring rate or do something different with the guide rod and how the slide moves. an XD tactical has a big heavy steel slide and IT doesnt have a big hole chopped in the top. i know they are different guns but you see what i mean

The slides weigh almost the same. The G-17 is about 17 ounces and the G-34 is right at 18 ounces. These weights are from a kitchen scale, don't tell spouse that I used her cooking scale to weigh Glock slides

I have both the 34 and 17. Love them both but you could not pry my 34 from my cold dead fingers. I know the slide is not that much longer but there is just something about it. I feel a slight less recoil out of the 34. The slide cut out is also handy if you get an aftermarket ported barrel. I plan on getting the barrel with both porting and a compensator. I use the 34 for IPSC and Action Pistol / 3 Gun.
