RCBS bullet seater die problem

My seater die is hanging a bullet near the tip; this leaves a small ring on the bullet where it is hanging up. I get a little crunching sound when the bullet slips off what ever it is hanging on. The seater die for my other rifle (Lee) does not do this. What is happening here?

LEE also leaves ring near tip

My LEE dies also leave that ring near the point where it looks as tho it "dug in" and crimped/cut the bullet jackets making the ring s around 3/16" down from the points. A friend has RCBS Dies that do it also.
I wondered if they were "not smooth", up inside? I have a couple of LEE dies that DON"T do it also.
I was not too worried about them tho, since I reload just to shoot "my own" ,and NOT for "High-accuracy competition".(MY reloads are quite accurate and shoot better than all of the "Factory" loads I have tried! ) It does bother me a little that they are distorting the Jackets and I'd like to know what is neccessary to fix it. If I have to live with it ~ so be it ,I guess. :barf: Longarm

The taper of the bullet and seater don't match, so your bullet is being seated by the edge of the seater, leaving the ring mark. It does no damage, unless it is grossly extreme. A lot of experiments have been done filing bullet tips to see the effect on ballistics, and they turn out to withstand a good bit of torture before the effect is obvious at normal ranges.

Make sure your cases are adequately chamfered. Use a dry inside neck lube when sizing. A little will remain to assist with seating. If you are unfamiliar with case neck lubes, just pour a shallow dish 1/4" deep with powdered graphite and poke your lubed cases down into it just before sizing. This gets a thin layer of the graphite inside the case neck. Other options are available.
