I was a member of Glocktalk and Glocktalk alone for years. Then got an account here and there and now I pretty much have accounts everywhere...

10 gun forums, active on perhaps 5 of those.

Was on the high road, haven't been there in months, don't care for it much. I poke my head around brand-specific forums, but usually only for research to buy a new gun or upgrade an old one.

Just a few

Here
THR.us
Shotgunworld.com
Trapshooters.com
Opencarry.org
Carryforum.com/forum (MN specific)
These are the ones I spend time on pretty regular and post on.
MNguntalk.com
Rimfirecentral.com
forums1911forum.com
These I mostly lurk occasionally.

Here and TheHighRoad.us
This is the best gun forum IMO by a wide margin.

I really like this forum, so when I do have any free time to spend on the computer, I try to do it here.

I'm a member of 3 other firearms forums, but I hardly ever check or post on them. It's just not the same. I feel at home here. There's no need to go anywhere else.

Several forums, several screen names. Sometimes it is easier that way.

I do find it amusing when someone at one forum disagrees with me on one forum and then has a change of heart on another about the same topic.

I would say that other than ARFCOM, which is focused more on military weaponry this is the best general knowledge based forum out there. The other problem with ARFCOM is all the posturing and many people with the lack of ability to express themselves in English which gets old fast. So for non-military guns this is probably the best forum out here.

Quote:
On the surface, one may say it's a shame L&P was shut down. Members abound just could not obey the rules. It stinks we no longer can discuss on this topic, no doubt. However, how many potential members were lost due to the debacle? How many members were gained/retained that wanted a board without all that riff-raff? What better focus on Legal and Civil rights sprouted from the closure?
I didn't post here then had that but can say 100% I am glad they don't have it anymore. Too many trolls and political hacks who are not really interested in firearms but rather in spouting their indoctrination in hopes to sway you to vote for character X. They gum up the works building their post count asking dumb questions about .45 vs. 9mm or what kind of rifle to buy for whitetail hunting. It simply is not necessary. If you want to waste time talking to a political hack go to the Huffington Post.

THR.org has become... disappointing since the schism. I guess it was to be expected. THR.us is sort of like the wild west these days. Just about anything goes in their "ethics" forum. (Seriously what does global warming have to do with guns or gun rights?) But if I had to pick between the two the .us is better simply because it is much more in the spirit of the original site, even if many of the founders don't post there much. Of course the traffic is much lower because a lot people don't even know about the schism or the other forum.

Then there are the specialty forums, which are faster and easier to get a specific question answered correctly about a particular firearm. You can't rely on the best people to post the best answers on a general forum all the time.

I enjoy it too. I guess that is why I post/search on this forum. I one time did a search on "hot wire foam cutters". I pulled up a thread on an AR-15 forum. This guy was using a a homemade cutter to cut foam to go into his Pelican cases. It was awesome! But I got my info and blazed. I didn't hang out and look around.

I am probably a member on 15 firearms related sites. most I went to with a specific question and no longer remember my id/pw. TFL is the only one I check with any sort of regularity.
Every six months or so I may get on rimfire central and take a look around.
Once a month someone might suggest I take a question somewhere else and I do.

I'm a mod at www.assaultweb.net, but there is so little traffic there now I'm losing interest. I like that they state up front that they are a Christian friendly site. There are alot fewer noobs there and they have a much less liberal mamby pamby membership than here.

Forums To Be On

I am on several other forums:
  • Beretta Forum - because I own a Beretta. I own Remingtons and JC Higgins/Marlin weapons too, but they are not ones that I feel the need to follow closely.
  • DefensiveCarry Concealed Carry Forum - because I carry concealed
  • Florida Concealed Carry - because I live in Florida
  • Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association - because I used to live in Pennsylvania, and have family (and visit) there
  • The High Road - another, more general forum
  • USA Carry (Open and Concealed) - because I carry
  • Packing.Org - loved it, until it when away
You should cover general forums, ones that cover the weapons that you own and find that you need to follow, and ones that cover carrying - if that is what you do.

Other Gun forums? WHat's that?

No. This is it.
I used to do the High Road...but got booted for standing up to a loud mouth cop.

(No-No, not one of the good cops! A rogue.)

www.thefiringline.com

www.gunrightsradio.com

www.handgunforum.net

www.xdtalk.com

www.mp-pistol.com

I post on the first four and usually just read the m&p forums. All of the sites are great and I am always up for finding more great sites that encompass all topics.

I'm registered at the THRs and CAS City, but don't post much at all. I joined CalGuns a while back, but mostly post in their off-topic lounge. They seem pretty well focused on ARs and AKs over there and I'm not. I don't mind reading about them, but owning one isn't my thing. This place is home to me..... much to the chagrin of some, I'm sure.
