Affordable supressors?
I'm interested in getting a supresssor to use on both my 10/22 and my sig mosquito. Since the tax is so damn high on them, is anyone making affordable supressors? do the manufactures have to pay the $200 tax on each one they make and thats why they are so expensive?

Manufacturers don't have to pay the $200 for each can they make. They pay an annual tax to have their license.
These aren't too expensive, they still require the $200 tax stamp... http://www.thompsonmachine.net/?page_id=14

Here's a YHM mite around the same price and lifetime warranty.http://www.yhm.net/store/22Mite.html. and class III require a 200.00 transfer.

I'm aware of the tax I have to pay but I didnt know if the manufacture had to pay it for each peice also. I think I read that you can make one at home if you pay the tax.

Yes you can make any NFA item except machineguns at home on BATFE form 1 and a $200 making tax.
Unless you are a top machinist you are not going to be able to make one as nice a one as you can buy. Buy the best and don't be stuck with a bad silencer for life. |

I agree with David. Don't buy a cheap silencer - most of your money will be in that $200 stamp tax. Buy the best - it lessens the impact of having to pay $200 tax. Yes, its more expensive overall, but at least you are assured some resale value.

I bought a YHM Mite for my .22LR quieting needs. It works fine, but out the door it was the same price as the tax stamp.
I'll concur with those recommending not to go cheap; by the time you end up actually taking delivery of the thing an extra $50 or $100 will be forgotten. |
