Light 44 Mag rounds

Does anyone have a good load for a 240 lead SWC to get it, in a magnum case to between 900 -950 FPS in a 4" tube ??
I know I can load the 44 Spl. but would rather use magnum cases. To make it more interesting I'm looking for a ball powder load so it will go smoothly in my Dillon press.

I'm feeling lazy, right now, so I'm not gonna go to "The Book". Howsomever, I used to load 5.8 gr. of 231 behind a 200-gr. .45ACP, 5" barrel to get 850 ft/sec. So, I'd guess around 7 gr. of 231 in the shorter barrel and the heavier bullet would put you in the ball park.

I used the 5.8 grain powder charge (too lazy to change the powder measure) behind 250-gr lead bullets in my Red Hawk, but that has the 7-1/2" barrel. It definitely knocked down steel plates harder than the .45 Gummint...

Go buy a book!

HS-6 8.5 gr. 822 fps
231 6.0 gr. 808 fps

Thanks guys, actually have about 10 or so different manuals from the last 30 years.
The books list loads that when you run them accross a chronograph doesn't really produce what they say they will ... just hoping somebody had a pet load <G>

I've gotten great results using 8gr of Unique and a 240gr SWC (7.5 inch barrel and mag cases). Obviously its not a ball powder, but it still feeds well through my Dillon. Its a fun and accurate load in my guns.

I use 6.7 gr of Red Dot with the 240 gr SWC, home cast, and lubed with Lee liquid alox. Per Ed Harris, the Red Dot isn't as position sensitive as some of ball powders. I've used this load for several years for plates and it's accurate and consistant for me.

Again not a ball powder but I use 9.5 gr of Vihtavouri N350 with a 200 LFN. Haven't chrono'd it but it's a pussycat. This is my cowboy load.
