Shotgun Stock Crack

I have a Savage shotgun (the copy of the Browning A5 shotgun) that has a crack in the stock. I'm looking for websites that would walk me through the repair. I've tried gluing it, but I guess I didn't clamp it tight enough, because its loose again.

Or, as another option, are there any cheap replacement stocks? Where would I pick one up? The only ones I've seen are about $100.

Gun Parts Corporation has new stocks for around $65.00, in several styles.

The Savage was made in the following model numbers:
720, 754, 750, 750C, 745B, 745C.

You'll need to look under the exact model your gun is.

As a repair option.
Gluing stock cracks is iffy, due to the trouble of getting glue into the crack.
Usually, any attempts to pry open the crack to inject glue just spreads the crack farther.

The way the military and many gunsmiths repair cracks is to drill a small hole across the cracked section, then turn in a long, very narrow brass screw.

As the screw is turned in, it pulls the crack tightly together.

After the screw is in, the head is cut off, and the remaining brass is carefully filed flush with the wood, leaving only a brass pin showing.

The military repair pin is about 3" long by 3/32" thick. It has a very course, rounded thread and a straight shank for gripping with a drill chuck.

An ordinary brass wood screw of sufficient length and very narrow will work well.

Normally, this repair is considered a permanent repair, and is usually stronger than either glue OR the original wood before it cracked.
