Price of Reloading for 460 vs 500

I'm wanting to get one of these monster revolvers but can't decide which one I want. For those of you that reload for either or both, what does it cost per round for each and which is the better option all in all? Thanks.

I am reloading a 700 gr. bullet for the 500 and it only uses 26.0 gr. of H110. But what a load! WOW!

Simple solution

Learn how to cast your own bullets and you problem is solved. After you buy your brass and mold you should be able to shoot 700-800 rounds for under $100. I can load about 500 45-70, and 1,000 44 magnums for $100. However I am a bit of a professional lead scrounger. Tom.

I don't own either, I can't see myself ever owning either... just don't have a use for such a caliber. But it seems to me that given the most expensive part of any handloaded round is usually the bullet, the .460 is likely to be much easier and cheaper to reload, given that there are other calibers that uses the .45 bullets. The .50 on the other hand, are scarce, and used only in what, .500 Mag and .50 AE?

Go for the one with the wider range of bullets.

I load, shoot and love 10mm. It's not a popular caliber... but if it weren't for .40 S&W, and all the bullets that continue to sell because of .40 S&W, life as a 10mm hand loader is much, much easier than it otherwise would be.

Attention Brass rats and other reloaders: I really need .327 Federal Magnum brass, no lot size too small. Tell me what caliber you need and I'll see what I have to swap. PM me and we'll discuss.

For one thing, the .460 pistol is more versatile in that it will shoot three different bullets; .460, .454 Casull, and .45 Colt.

What wil you use it for?

Timbow, you did not state what this new toy will be used for. I own the 460 XVR and 2 - 500 Performance Center Smiths. Hands down the 460 will be cheaper to load than the 500 but beware. My 460 is very accurate when shooting the 460 round. Mediocre shooting the 454 Casull. And is horrible shooting the 45 Colt so don't let this "assumed" versatility influence your buying decision. On the other hand if you want raw horse power the 500 is the way to go and is every bit as accurate as the 460 at typical handgun ranges. With the 350gr Sierra JHP over Hodgdon Lil'Gun I am knocking at the door of 2000fps, that's some flat shootin for a bullet that size

I will probably do a little hunting with it (mostly deer) but I am mainly getting it because I want a hand cannon. I really don't care about shooting 454 or 45 Colt through it as I have other guns for that and the ammo isn't much less expensive as the 460's.

Recoil Freak (Great Name)
Why do you suppose .454 Casull and .45 Colt are so inconsistant in the .460?

Another caveat of shooting .45 Colt in those big guns: I've shot .45 Colt in my .454 and it is fairly boring. It was like "Did a bullet even come out?"
