Swapping bead sights?

I have a Remington 870 express synthetic HD w/ the 18" barrel.

I was just wondering how hard it would be to swap the stock front bead I have now for a HiViz Spark Sight.

Can I just grab the sight with needle nose pliers and crank counter clockwise?

The new sight comes with threaded post but is the stock sight threaded on?

I just don't want to trash the sight trying to unscrew something that isn't screwed on.

The new sights come in red or green, any opinions on which is a better color for home defense or is it more of a personal preference?

Just heard back from remington. The bead sight is 'staked' in not threaded.

Oh well, guess I should leave it up to the profesionals.

I've got a Red Label that had a mid-barrel bead. I didn't like it so I took it to a gunsmith and they took it out for me. It was pressed in somehow. They threaded the hole for me so that if i ever wanted to, I could put a bead back in by myself.

I left the bead on, but I painted it with the Birchwood Casey Super Bright touch up paint. My buddy had some in red so I gave it a try. In all but the dimmest light and complete dark the bead shows up pretty good. At the range we were doing 10% light defense drills and it was much easier and faster to aquire a good shot at the targets.

I would also like to try the hi-vis glo-dot II which just snaps over the existing bead and gives you a small fiber optic light pipe.

Has anyone tried these?
