Identifying an old Browning

I have an old browning 16 ga. semi that was made somewhere in the 20s-40s. It does NOT have a gold trigger. Left side of barrel markings are "Browning Arms Company St Louis MO" and "special steel-16 gauge-shells 2 3/4" " The serial number on the receiver is A6831. Any help on it's model and history would be greatly appreciated.

It is exactly the same except it doesn't have the elevated ridge sight on the top of the barrel. It is just a round barrell with a bead sight on the end. The picture is amazing though. Did they make this model without the ridge? thanks so much for the response. Greetings from Austin, TX the future College champs of 2005-2006.

The Browning Auto-5 (a.k.a, Humpback) was made in many different configurations, styles and grades. Yours is probably one of the less expensive grades.

"American Browning" Auto-5 - 12, 16 or 20 ga., Remington-produced model of the Auto-5, very similar to the Model 11, except with Browning logo, mag. cut-off, and different engraving, over 38,000 mfg. in 12 ga. (ser.no. range B5000-B43129), over 14,000 in 16 ga. (A5000-A19450), and 11,000 in 20 ga. (C5000-C16152), stocks have Remington style round knobs pistol grip.

Mfg. 1940-1949.
