Green Dot For 45acp Follow Up

I posted a thread on green dot for 45acp a while back and thought i would
repost improved results. Originally I had a SNS 200gr Semi Wad Cutter
with 5.6 gr of green dot. The chronograph range differential was about 100fts.

Accuracy was poor.

You can look up the thread under OverPressure.

Here is where i am today. 5.6 gr of Green Dot consistantly gives me 880 to
900fps using cotton wadding. The velocity goes up about 20 fps when i
use a small square of paper towel as wadding. Same SWC bullet. With the
paper towel use a standard pencil to press the paper square against the powder.

For my personal preference i wanted to slow the bullet down to about 850 fps.
I am using a Lees Classic 4 die turret reloader with the autodisk. The next
disk down was 5.2 gr or.66cc. The 5.6gr uses the .71cc charge.

What i did was purchase a lees microcharger, I then charged the 5.6 gr
.71cc load and balanced it on the lees scale. The next step was to approximate
the 5.4 gr. of powder in the Microcharger , just slightly under what the indicator on the microcharger was telling me 5.4 gr was and weighed the
results. I slowly dialed in 5.4 gr on my Lees scale.

I weighed and reweighed the new charge to make sure the charger was
delivering me a consistant 5.4gr.

The results were
867fps
865fps
850fps
860fps
865fps

The average being 861 fps.
All the testing was done with Winchester Large Pistol Primers.

This is not my first choice or even second choice for a 45acp load!!!

What it is are the lack of pistol powder options and wanting to take mediocre
results and make them respectable.

You can shoot a one inch group with this bullet all day long at ten yards.

I shot 20 at 25 yards , i was grouping in the 6 oclock to 9 oclock quarter, i wrote it off to 68 years and an off day. Normaly i would say young eyes and
a smooth trigger can shoot 3 inch groups with this load at 25 yards.

The barrel is clean and the rest of the gun is no worse off than my powder
of choice Clays Standard.
