Coach guns?

Wanted a double barrel shotgun for a while now. Have an opportunity to pick up a Stoeger Surpreme in 12 gauge with removeable chokes. Dicks has these for $449 plus tax and the seller is asking a tad less.

I already have a Mossberg 500 pump that holds more rounds and was cheaper but the double barrel just sounds interesting. Any thoughts or reviews if you have one?

Unless you have an intended use for the gun, you may wind up with an interesting wall hanger. That $400 will get you a lot of trigger time with your M-500.

I agree with Zippy. One of my best friends picked up a Stoeger Coach gun. While it is a pretty cool gun to look at and talk about, effectively it has not left his closet at all. There really is no clear purpose for that gun, other than possible self defense in your house, or if you have a stage coach and are worried about bandits!!!

The coach guns are popular in cowboy action shooting.

I'd rather have a Baikal than a Stoeger, personally.

I have a Century arms Coach gun, with outside hammers and double triggers, sitting next to my easychair in the living room.
Need to take it out and fire two rounds of dragons breath at the same time.Now that would be a flame thrower!! lol

If I was to get one and money was not an issue I would go for a CZ coach gun.

I've had a Stoeger coach gun for more than 20 years, it's been a reliable, fun little 12ga. Mine is a nearly constant companion in my suburban.

I keep it in a large tool box, broken down and contained within a Thompson Center pistol bag in the back of my suburban.

Home defense would be your primary application, however you better make certain you use your 2 shots wisely - or you will be left with a 7lb wood and metal club.

If you go with a cheap SxS, don't try to get ejectors or a single trigger. The Stoeger Uplanders are quite popular with the Cowboy set, because they work. The UYplander Supremes and such, not.

My Baikal 'Bounty Hunter 2' prints neat little full-wadcutter cloverleafs at 25yds using Aguila Mini-Slugs. They feature a pure lead, 385gr, .71 dia, flat meplat @ 1250FPS. They're devastating against feral pumpkins and bad guy watermelons

Thanks for the heads-up, my neighbor raises giant pumpkins for contests and sometimes the losers go rogue -- it's not a pretty sight.

I just got a never been fired 12 gauge Stoeger coach gun at a gun show. My plans for it are a house defense and just for range fun. I plan on shooting quite a bit of blackpowder (substitutes) in it. Saturday evening I went to the store and bought some 3" Turkey Nitro loads as they were the 'cheapest' for the first test. Ouch... They hurt. 1 7/8oz load at 1200fps.... Obviously I wasn't paying attention what rounds I was buying.... Anyway, the gun worked flawlessly for the 6 rounds I could stand. Even shooting at hip level it wacked my fingers..... Can't wait to shoot some slower/lighter BP loads. Have some wads, cushions, and hulls coming to start reloading....

I like my 5100 Stevens but it is a functional hunting arm... It was sawed down by someone in history for some reason to 19 or 20 inch barrels which is an ideal length for hunting in the dense cover I love...

It is a tried and proven design of American construction with both barrels being regulated to each other and indexed well to my eyes which means I can shoot "minute of deer/hog" with the thing... $100 for this 1950,s beaut...
