Bullet opinions?
I have a mulie hunt coming up and a newish gun...anyone have any advice/experience/opinion on bullet selection. In a 25-06 rem. The gun shoots the barnes tsx 100s and the nosler partition 115s really well. I'm open to other suggestions but pretty much have it narrowed down to those 2. Thanks

IMHO those are 2 of the best hunting bullets you can use. If forced to choose I'd go with the Nosler though, they have the better BC.

What is already posted is true, those are both excellent bullets, great terminal performance on either. Personally I would go with the Nosler, but no good reason for it, I just like Noslers...

Partitions have done me so well over the last 40 years from Alabama to Montana that I don't even experiment anymore.

I would bet that Remington Core-Lokt have killed quite a few more animals that either of them two. I have sure killed enough with them! Wouldn't hunt big game with anything else.

Another good bullet for the 25-06 is the Sierra Gameking in 117 grain. Since you have found two bullets that group well, it appears you have found what you need, Personally, I like heavier bullets in a 25-06.

To Discern
I really like the gamekings and had already given them a whirl. They shot okay. When I have more time to tinker that may be the route I go. Ive been very pleased with them in the past. But I have a hunt next week so I have only experimented with the factory loads. Any guys that hand load out there feel free to send me your favorite recipes! Im not real worried about using a lighter bullet, especially in 25-06...Ive only shot a few with that caliber, but they have just dropped dead in their tracks weather I was shooting 100s up to 120. Who knows, its really all about shot placement anyways.

From a ballistics standpoint,
Any 100 grain bullet can be pushed at higher velocity, compared to a 115 grain bullet.
A couple of loading manuals indicate about 3300 fps MV for a 100 gr. bullet, compared to about 3100 fps MV for the 115 gr. pill in a 25-06. The result is a flatter trajectory with the lighter bullet. If the difference is significant to you, then there it is.

I'll +1 on Nosler partitions but I've also heard good things but have not yet tried their bonded core bullets...

I have a 25-06. You have listed my two favorite bullets for it. Both are a good choice. Why don't you let your rifle decide for you?

You are set for hunting I wouldn't hesitate to use either. I like the 120 Sierra GK and the 110 Accubond out of my .25-06. I've got a couple hundred Swift A Frames 120's to use as well if I ever decide to go after elk with my rifle.

I have a friend who lived in Africa for severeal years. He did some control work for some farmers before the country blew up.
After killing several hundred animals and tracing the bullet and its damage, he concluded that the Barnes X is the best game bullet made. Prior to the Barnes X he thinks that the Nosler Partition was the best. Another friend who has taken all the worlds sheep, and all or nearly all of the worlds goats. He could not get the Barnes to shoot well in his guns, and uses the Nosler partition. His rifles are .270 and .257 Weatherbys. He uses the .270 Wby on larger sheep like the Marco Polo. I would go with the one that provided the terminal ballistics, and accuracy needed. Regards, Jerry

DeerSlayer86:
I like the Nosler Partition. One year in Wyoming my friend shot a large mule deer buck that was running stright away at about 100 yards He was shooting a mode 70, 270 Winchester. The 130 gr.partitioned bullets hit the buck in the right ham. The bullet took out one lung and lodged under the chest skin. After traveling through 2 1/2 feet of muscle and organs the bullet was still intact Semper Fi. Gunnery sergeant Clifford L. Hughes USMC Retired Last edited by Clifford L.
