Rem 700 or savage 10 series ??? - Page 2

Here's my straight out the box Rem 700 Tactical 308 that I shot today:

100yard 5 shot group, 168 Sierra MK, IMR 4064:

200yard 5 shot group, 168 Sierra MK, W748:

I've owned a Remington 700 22-250 and currently a Savage 30-06. Both are good guns and you can get great performance from either.

But, I liked the asthetics of my Remington over the Savage. The Remington was finished a little nicer and the action/barrel on the Remington seems a little more refined.

By the way, those pictures I posted are of loads that are first time tried using IMR4064 and first time using W748. These a not "worked up" at all. Also, my bench set up is really wobbly and these were shot with scope at 3X. I know my rifle has way more potential than this. I have only been shooting targets for about 3 years now. I have only owned the rifle 6 months and that was during deer season so I didn't shoot it the whole season except taking 2 bucks. Not to discount anything, I am just trying to point out that this rifle is as accurate as any factory rifle out there and it is not finnicky with any ammo.

Maybe the Savage rifle shoot better. I am just stating the facts about the Rem 700. Is the Savage more accurate, I don't know. Let's see some proof.

I've never seen a Remmy blow primers on factory ammo, unlike several Savages I have personally witnessed. I have never seen a Remmy firing pin fail to strike a primer on factory ammo or get its bolt locked up, unlike several Savages I have seen. And I have never seen, on the whole, 700-based rifles (notice I did not say out of the box, although my off the shelf PSS and 5R has spanked every Savage I have competed against) get outshot at long range by Savages (F-TR matches specifically). Based on these observations, as limited as they are, I'll stick with the 700.

When i was in the store, I was choosing between Rem 700 police for $1060 and Savage 10FP for $659, i was leaning toward 700, because it was more expensive.

But i couldn't decide. Then the guy next to me(another costumer) sad-"I shoot for a living, and i would recommend Savage". Today I'm glad I made that choice

As a long time Remington person, I switch to Savage because of the accutrigger.

Much better then Remington's and a better made gun to boot.

I recently purchased a Savage 10 FCP HS-Precision. Any future purchases will be another Savage. I'm not getting rid of my existing Remington or Sako bolt guns....but I'm not buying any more of them either.

Having both I say get both. I have a Savage 308 and the Remington 223. Both are great rifles and about equal in accuracy either are about the most accurate factory rifle out of the box.I also have Rugers and CZ which are great rifles but the pushfeeds are more accurate than the mauser in my experience. Mauser actions are more reliable in extreme conditions.my other Savage and Remingtons are great guns as well.that is why I say get both.

I owned a Rem 7 (not 700) and it did not chamber smoothly every time. I kind of like that second shot to not jam when the coyote is getting away.

Switched to a savage and am a happy man. And, the savage has a faster twist rate so I can load heavier bullets if I want.

Just one man's opinion.
