Marks on grip a count or from machining ?

Just got a cz-24 the reseller was told it was a bring back and that is all of the history that I know about it
manufactured in 1937
Thought the marks might have been a machining error at first but after blowing up a pic
I think it may have been put on there by someone
But will never know by who or why

More likely what we used to call "barrel wear", marks picked up from bouncing around in a barrel. They look like they might have been made by the edge of a slide where the cocking striations are, maybe on a P.38 or a Radom.

(Yes, a symbol of six dead Nazis would be more romantic, but the idea of notching grips has been much overplayed.)

They almost look like checkering overruns. LOL

Didn’t think they would have been a count when I first saw then because they were on a weird angle and not the same length they end in a sort of half circle but they didn’t line up with the serrations on the grip so that pretty much ruled out a mistake in manufacturing too me
But rubbing on something in a crate that’s round and serrated does seem like a more likely scenario that I didn’t consider
