Range Report: day at the cabin

Ok, so while the rest of the ohio group was spending money at the gunshow, Dave and I were at our family's cabin in southern Ohio working (and shooting). We found a spot with great potential for a range, probably can do 100 yard and 200 yard for rifle plus nearby is a good spot for a pistol range.

We got to shooting late in the afternoon. Dave insisted on finally sighting in his evil black rifle. Suffice to say, its a good thing I was there, otherwise he wouldn't have known how to adjust the front sight (its really hard to sight in a rifle if you can't group with it

). So Dave saves a little face, I won't be posting any pics of his targets (unless I get numerous requests). However, we might have a pic or two of us shooting later this week, with dave in his new TFL shirt.

Don't forget that not 40 minutes before we started our range session, I was co-experiencing a 360 degree positive x-axis bodily-rotation with Mac and his Kodiak. (Translation: We rolled his Honda 4-wheeler coming up a hill.)

I must have still been a little shaky because of all the adrenaline. Yeah, that's it! I was still shaky!

OW! I think I hurt myself reaching so far for that excuse...

One thing stuck in my mind from our range session. When Steve came down and was shooting the .38 Special rounds through the GP-100 at those bowling pins; we both heard a "movie-style" ricochet. Sounded pretty cool, but I was wondering...

I wonder how often anyone has heard a very audible ricochet while shooting at pins with a round-nose lead bullet that is probably way underpowered for pin-shooting. Should we be sticking to hollowpoints of various calibers for this activity???

uh huh

lousy excuse, you didn't have to ride with Bill (need I remind you of any of the craziness he's done). That's just as bad as being with mac when he's flipping his atv.

Those 38s sure didn't want to knock the pins over, but we've seen that with 9mm too. Guess I'll just have to use a real caliber for that (either my .45 or my dads .41mag).
