AR15 5.45x39mm kit question

Ok, I have a 74 varient and a fair amount of ammo. I want to buikd another ar and hav ev seen a few kits in this chamber. My only real question is will I need diffrent magazines, followers? If so, what is ability like for the mags/followers? I have a fair amount of surplus m16 mags but didnt kniw if they would cycle and feed the 5.45 rounds

Hey,
i just bought a spikes tactical 5.45x39 complete upper, two cases of surplus ammo and a bunch of mags. still waiting on lpk from palmetto( should arrive this week).
From my research it looks like you better off using dedicated 5.45 ar mags, verses modifying standard 5.56 mags.

ASC and C-Products makes 5.45 ar mags

If you want some mags, let me know i can spare some

You shouldn't have to change your follower...for realiability's sake --- just don't load your 30 round 5.56x45 mags with 5.45x39 --- past 25 rounds.

Ok they do feed through standard 5.56 mags, thats good to know. I have a few of those lol. Ive slowly accumulated a lot of AK74 mags and love the round and the rifle, but miss my ar platform, and have ammo, so I think Ill build one

I shoot lots of 5.45 with my S&W upper and USGI 30 round mags. Mine are 100% reliable with only loading 25 rounds and using the old fashioned black follower.

Funny, I just picked up a 5.45x39 spikes upper for my AR from AIM. I had the lower sitting im safe for years (LRB)I'm kinda new to the AR myself I've been a AK guy. Anyhow I picked up a ACE stock for the AR since I liked em so much on my AK's. Damn dentent spring went flying across the garage now I can't find it. I'm on the hunt for ASC 5.45x39 mags. Now I got to wait for midway to ship me new springs. I ordered 4 of those suckers.

Ditto here on the S&W 5.45 upper, I've put about 2K rounds though it using C-Products 5.45 mags, but also using some regular PMAGS, but I've only loaded them with 25 rounds..........

I've never had the 5.45 to feed right out of 5.56 mags with more than 5-6 rounds loaded.
