Poll: Which Big caliber Glock?

For those of you who prefer to carry big caliber (.40, .45, 10mm) Glocks, what is your preference? I'm trying to decide if I should get a Glock 29, 30, 27, or 33 as my next carry gun. I currently carry the Glock 26 and I prefer to keep my capacity at or about the same level. Also, is it a year-round carry gun or do you downgrade to a smaller caliber in warmer months?

I have a G26 in my carry rotation which I like pretty well, but if I were to change it would probably be the G27 since it is very similar. However, just curious other than just wanting another gun why you would want to give up the good ole G26 and the proven 9mm?

I carry a 29 because it fits my hands. Some times i carry it with a LW .357sig barrel.

Glock 29 SF small (aka short) frame has reduced grip size not bad for carry, but better suited for back up when hunting large dangerous game

To BarryLee:

I never said I wanted to give my G26, I'm just looking for something with a little more "punch" to carry primarily in colder months. There's simply no way I will ever give up my Glock 26 as it is my favorite gun. I just want a different option in case I need it.

Of the guns listed the G27 gets my vote. That said, I recommend you shoot one before you buy it. IMO it's the hardest Glock to shoot well for most people.

But.... Since you listed the G29 as an option I'd also recommend looking at a G23 as they're about the same size.

I carry a Glock 30, and love it. As mentioned above, the G30 is, IMO, closer in size to the Glock 23 and 19 than the 26 and 27.

Another for the G30.

A .45 the size of a G19? It gets no better'n that.

Any of the sub-compact Glocks. 26/27/33 are fine.

Now I also have a Glock 20, 10mm, but that is for the field.

Don't spend to much time worrying about the size of the bullet or how many rounds your piece holds.

Practice alot, keep your head up, and don't do the three stupids.

I voted 33 because its what I have, but I'd equally take the 27. With performance of any of the guns on your list being nearly identical, I'd go for size and capacity over caliber.

I cc the 30SF. I'm not giving it a vote; not because I don't like my 30SF, but because I don't have experience with the other models.

What I can say is that compared to those other models the 30 will be the biggest. While the 29 and 30 are similar the 30 takes larger bullets, and the standard 10 round mags extend further the the 29 mags do. This is a plus and minus as it gives more grip area (just enough room for a pinky finger), but on the other hand it is larger which is generally not a welcomed trait in cc guns. If this extra pinky room bothers you you could always buy the 9 round .45 mags for the 30.

@CCWNUT if my 30SF wasn't department issue I'd would try to set up a trade with you, as I personally want a 26. Anyway, I would recommend the 27 or perhaps the 33 so you can keep using the same holsters and equipment.

I voted G33. I have a G33 & 27 and I prefer the recoil impulse of the G33. The 357 sig is so close to a 9mm +P you may want to keep the G26 or go with a G30. The 357 sig and 45acp ammo is about the same $ and 45 Glocks are nice shooting guns. Nothing wrong with a G27 but I have trouble with the recoil of the G27 during rapid fire causing the slide stop to engage and I get failure to cycle.

I voted 27. I get smaller in the summer when I don't wear an outer garment.

If I were to jump up in size and caliber from my G26...I would have to compromise on the G23 for its size and power. The G27 may be just a bit too snappy with its small size but thats a personal preference. Soem can adapt to the snappy G27 recoil better than others.

Im not quite there yet.....so it would be the compact G23 for me in .40 cal for size, accuracy, capacity and dependability

For that I chose a G38, a 45 the EXACT size of a G19. For the OP, I'd suggest a G39, the finest subcompact 45 caliber available (as mentioned, the G30 is truly a compact = to the G19 in size).

I'm a huge fan of the G27.
For me its the best blend of size, capacity, concealability and shootability with a very potent cartridge.

Sadly, its definitely blocky and feels like a brick compared to my PM9 and LCP, so it stays in the truck quite a bit.
