Who carries a small 380 in their hip pocket?
I have on order a desantis superfly for my LCP. I currently have an uncle mikes #3 which is actually one size to big for it. I got the superfly because it had the ambidextrous shield that can also be used for hip pocket carry.
My question is does anyone hip pocket carry a small 380. An Ad would be bad news from that position and I wonder if it is really smart to be sitting on a condition 1 handgun. Anyone currently doing this and if so can you share some insight? Regards, Vermonter |

That's how I carry my BG .380. My physical attributes (meaning "muffin top"). kinda get in the way of OWB carry. Plus, living here in the crazy midwest,I usually wear generic (read:cheap Wal-Mart Fruit of the Loom drawstring-tie $10.95) shorts during the hot-ass 110 to 115 heat index, summer months. And the same brand drawstring-tie sweatpants during the winter. Yea,I know,I'm kind of a trendsetting fashion icon. Seriously though. I don't have the $$$$ to afford Big&Tall men's specialty stores "dress shorts" with belt loops and oversized type pockets and such. They typically cost upwards of $40 or so. And I can't think of the last time I actually wore a pair of pants and a belt. Having the firearm in my pocket kinda feels like the weight of a roll of quarters or so. Not too bad.

Hip pocket? I'm confused. What do you mean when you say hip pocket? Do you mean the pockets on cargo shorts / pants?

Hip Pocket Definition
I mean the rear pocket in a pair of jeans or shorts that is usually reserved for the wallet.

I think reaganmarine84 and I are the same person.
Anyway, I carry my LCP in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster. It fits the LCP snug and should work perfectly in a rear pocket. Has good outer grip for a smooth draw.

I carry my wallet in my left hip pocket and my LCP in a Galco Pro 436 pocket holster in my right hip pocket.
It's the first thing I put in my pocket in the morning, and the last thing I take out at night. With one in the chamber, and six in the magazine. And I usually have her big brother the LC9 in my front pocket, or my Model 37 S&W. |

When I travel into Detroit, in the summertime, I carry a .380 Ruger LCP in my back right pocket, and I have a S&W M&P 9c in my drivers side door map pocket.
In the cooler weather I ditch the LCP and switch to a Walther PPS in a IWB holster. But to answer your question, yea I carry a .380 in my hip pocket in the summer time when alll the leaves and trees are green and the redbirds sing........... Just don't slouch when you sit. |

Seecamps have a heal clip release which is a huge plus for back pocket carry.
When you sit on a mag release button guess what happens. I hate that they don't have sights though, my only dis on them. |

I believe I've only owned one handgun that was really suitable for hip-pocket carry and that was a Colt Detective Special. It and S&W J-frames with short barrels are naturals for the hip pocket of blue jeans. But I never did carry it like that.
When fashions were different (they always have been), there was a certain amount of popularity in hip-pocket holsters. They were specially made with springs to hold them in place. They were generally used with larger handguns, judging from photos that I've seen of them. But you could never find one like any of them now, I suspect. There was also a variety that you carried in your hip pocket but it was really a belt holster. Your trouser belt supported it but it still went inside the pocket. Those were from the day when a man wouldn't go outside without a hat. I think shoulder holsters may have been more popular then, too. The last thing I'd worry about would be it going off. The first thing I'd worry about is how to get it out.

Hip Pocket Carry
I have a Keltec .380 with a crimson laser module. The gun also has an integral spring clip on the grip. Tucks inside dress pasts well. Fits in front shirt pocket and blazer iner pocket well. Is unobtrusive when I simply put it into my chest shirt pocket!
No holster needed! |

No AD as of yet and I feel confident there never will be. ![]()

I carried my 380 on my ankle/chest upper/noon, pocket, and back pocket once... I didn't like it in back pocket, when I got back in the car it was being sat on.
