I recently bought a mossberg 500 persuader from Wal-Mart for HD it eats 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells, but can it take slugs or do I have to buy a rifled barrel.

The weapon will work fine with slugs if you do your part. No problem there.

What I find disquieting is the idea of slugs for HD. Can you tell us why they're an option for you?

I wanted to test slugs out on the range. I have Federal 00 Tactical Buckshot for the HD load.

Oh...

Tiger, try a few 5 packs of various loads. I suggest you try the Forster type slugs and the Brennekes first.

You could cast (and even patch-fit on a cyl bore) your own slug. Lee do a beauty which goes in a standard wad too. Factory sabots are also an option and have less leading than rifled slugs.
I agree that slugs are heavy for HD, ordinary cheap traploads are far better... unless you have a 25m hallway or stair with concrete wall backstop for the soft cast loads to mushroom onto when you miss !!
