.30-338

I am about to begin loading for a Rem. 700 in .30-338. This is a used rifle so am not familiar with it's history. I have 100 pcs. of Winchester nickel plated 338 Win Mag virgin brass.

I have been handloading for 25+ years, So I'm not new to the process. However, I have always loaded for "standard" calibers. Rifle and pistol. (.243 Win, 6mm Rem., .270, 7mm-08, .280, 7mm Rem. Mag, 7mm STW, 30-30, 30-06, 300 Win., 300 WBY, .40 S&W, 10mm, and 44 Mag.)

From what research I have done, it sounds like it is pretty much running 338 brass into the 30-338 die to neck it down. Is there anything I need to know or watch out for?

Also, in the 2 or so years I have been reading this forum, I have seen a reference or 2 of the .30-338 by various members, so if any of you have any starting load suggestions it would be helpful. This will be used for hunting and long range playing. Would like to try some 168 grn. C/T Ballistic Silvertips, and really interested in the 190 grn. SMK. All suggestions welcome.

Keep an eye on the neck thickness after you size it down to 30 caliber. You may need to trim or inside neck ream if it ends up too thick.

Use a very good lube. The best is Rooster CFL (Case Forming Lube) if you can find it. I believe it has been discontinued.
