Howie,

It is a +P load.

I would drop down to 4.5 gr of Unique with that bullet for a midrange load.

Sounds hot and dirty (read: leading and fouling).

I've never had a lot of luck pushing Unique, especially with cast bullets.

Two best loads I've ever got for .38 Spcl in a 158 SWC has been 4.1 of W231 for basic target plinking and minor IPSC loads, and 4.4 AA#2 for handgun silouhettes. I like both loads equally.

Yeah, 5.5 gr of Unique will give you a pleasant .357 "moderate" load with that 158 gr cast bullet.

4.5 gr of Unique in the .38 Spl case will give you a nice, low recoil, plinking load in your 686.

BTW, I shoot a good deal of LWC in my .357's and favor Unique with those lead bullets. It smells funny, and is a little smokey, it gives me very good accuracy and the fouling cleans up easy with Hoppes #9.
