Sig X-Five. Beautiful gun, adjustable trigger, target sights. Hard to beat.

S&W 4006. Smooth trigger, solid as a rock and recoil is a non issue. Cycles everything without the slightest hiccup.

I have two .40s, but my favorite is my XDm. I love the way it fits in my hand, acceptable trigger pull, and accuracy.
The other one is a S&W Sigma double action. I like the light weight, but it has a really long trigger pull before it fires. Thinking of selling it, maybe. |

Ruger SR40c.
You owe it to yourself to try one out.

I'm partial to my USP full size .40
Admittedly I have not fired many other .40s but I cannot imagine shooting this round out of a much smaller gun. |

EMP 40 here. Fit and finish are beautiful, and I'm impressed with how reliable it is, considering that it's not trivial to design a 3" 1911 that runs right.

My favorite .40 is easy since I only have one, but it is sweet. STI Tactical 4" high capacity 2011 with aluminum frame, tritium night sights, tactical magwell, and coyote brown grips. Smooth, accurate, with the tight tolerances and high quality I've come to expect from STI.
