Good and bad SA revolvers?

I am not new to firearms, but am new to the
idea of getting myself a SA revolver. Any
opinions are solicited and welcome.

I am thinking SA, and .44 Magnum. Also, I
am thinking that I will be visiting a SASS
type shoot sometime soon, and once I do I
will be hooked. So why not get a SA .44
that I could use for CAS?

I have heard of the different categories, some allowing adjustable sights and some not.
Which category is the most popular?

And the big question is which revolver. In
my ignorance I think my only choises are
Ruger, Colt, and Rossi. Of those, I would
lean towards Ruger, unless there is some CAS
reason not to lean that way? And just WHAT
is the difference between the Vaquero and the
Bislkey-Vaquero?

Howdy,

The Ruger Vaquero is a sturdy,well made gun and is very popular with Cowboy shooters. If you choose to shoot Vaqueros,and shoot with two hands,then you would bee in the Traditional class,which is far and away the most popular shootind class in SASS. If you choose to shoot with one hand,then you would be in the Duelist class.

The difference between a Vaquero and a Bisley
is the shape of the grip frame,the hammer and the trigger. The Bisley was designed to be a target pistol shot with one hand. Go to Ruger Firearms to see the difference,and to SASS Home Page for a listing of the rules and different shooting catagories.

Bill: Thanks for the info. Since my original
post I have had the opportunity to fondle the
Rugers at a local shop. Hmmmm. There is
something that is bothering me about a pistol
that I would be wanting, partially, to be
historically somewhat accuarate, and a Ruger.
The Ruger lawyers have made them engrave the
paragraph about reading the owners manual, on
the side of the barrel. Just like on my modern Rugers. For some reason this bugs me. Can anyone tell me what another popular
brand would be? Thanks again - Dan

Some of the other brands that are popular with the CAS crowd are the Italian reproductions;

Navy Arms www.navyarms.com
These companies have repros of Colts, Remingtons, C&B conversions, Winchesters and Schofields<sp>.

Fal308 gave you the lowdown on other options. I personally shoot Uberti 1875 Remingtons and enjoy them alot. I have a Vaquero as a backup gun,and,aside from the warning on the barrel,it's a fine pistol.
