Movie guns, holsters

Movie guns

I see the neat things that Old Dragoon has from the movie
industries and was wondering how much else is maybe
lurking here on this forum.

Maybe Old Dragoon will do some show and tell. I sure liked
your movie holsters and would enjoy hearing how you ended
up with them and any other interesting tidbits that you know
about them.

One of my movie guns??

Tinker2,
Well I just lucked into the stuff I got so far. I bought the gunfighter in Fla, and then learned it was in "North and South III, Heaven and Hell" after I had cut it down(bbl boo-boo's). A guy on the Cas-City Classifieds advertised the holsters and I bought them. He had owned my Gunslinger and told me the movie history. He had consigned the pistol to a Shop in FL. and I bought it from the shop. Roger was/is an armorer for the Movie Industry, don't know which, if any studio. We have talked a lot by email amd he just arranged my trade of my McClelland Saddle to his Capt in the FLA. Cav. Unit for a '58 Rem Carbine that has been period corrected by Roger. He added a forearm to it to make it look like the first model Rem. Carbine, as the ones produced by Uberti are to late a time period(1866) for their Unit. Capt. put it in his Gun Cabinet 10 years ago or so and has never fired it. I'm sure it will be top notch. The Guy has some other things that we are talking about when his prop trailer gets back to FLA..

Funny, You'd think the stuff came from here in Los Angeles Area, but no, clear across the country.

What movie is your Colt from?

Cast brass grips? I like 'em!

Have to try your recipe for faux ivory one day, if I can find the post, was it here or at Voy?

And, are you, personally, in shootin' shape, now, or living life vicariously? I doubt you are venturing out much, being in the Dakotas, probably colder than our "balmy" 26 degrees, but I hope you are able.

Heck, at 26 degrees, these forii are my vicarious pleasure, shake too much to cap a nipple at these temps.

Cheers,
George

I can’t say with certainly what movie it was in, I would
be guessing if I said. I would have to dig to find if I have
any paper work on where I got it from for sure.

I base my “movie gun” on how it is made. It is a old Colt.
I would guess that it was a parts gun. I have not taken
it totally apart. It does have the trigger, cylinder pin, and
cylinder replaced that I know of.

The cylinder is made the way that I have seen it done on
other “ Movie guns”. It is made from a C&B cylinder.
The back end is turned down on a lathe to about half
depth of the chambers. It is cut to the center of the bolt
stop. A steel sleeve was made to fit over the back and silver
soldered on to it. The bolt stops recut and chambers drilled
out (poorly) to about .400 This may need a picture or two
to make it clear as to the cylinder and how it was made.

I am not up on the old C&B conversions and how they were
made so I could be all wet. Maybe if some of you do know,
you could set me right.

It does change the balance a lot.

Post # 123 under triple 7. You do need a good press to do it.

Sorry to say no. I can’t yet hold a handgun out at arms length
and I drop most things that I try to hold for long.

The good news is I can cock my pistols now, mostly anyway.
I wish it went faster but I do see some improvement every
week, so I guess that I should not complain.

I know I am lucky that I still have most of my body parts.

What is it they say, of all the things I have loss I miss my
mind the most.

This “Movie gun” I know a little more about.

This is one of the ones that came out of John Wayne’s
movie studio. It has his brand on it.
It had a broken firing pin.
The Duke said that it wasn’t worth fixing.

Is this type ok for CAS ? Are they to new?
