What are you wanting your second Ruger for? Do you want it to hunt with, if so is it big game (and how big) or varmints, or do you want if for target shooting? We can throw some caliber and rifle recommendations out there but it would be more helpful for you to tell us what you want to use it for.

We really need to know what you intend to use the rifle for.

I was just looking the other day thru a Ruger catalog and noticing how much they've improved as a company without Bill, and the variety-I think if you were to for some reason want a complete battery of firearms but all from the same mfg., Ruger would be the way to go. Good, durable stuff always at the lower end or bottom level pricing vs. the competition. Stuff that goes bang every time.

How do you feel about Scout rifles? I'd grab a Frontier while you still can. It's not a complete according to Cooper Scout design, but feels good and light.
In the Spring I'll be in the market for a .223, depending on funds am leaning to the new tactical Mini, the one with Hogue stock. Their new AR (would be cool if they jumped into 1911s too, IMO) has the latest up to date engineering, a higher class than you'd think a Ruger AR would be, actually a sort of status symbol level. And a 10/22 is the staple .22. I am holding out for a takedown model to emerge, along the lines of Marlin 70PSS.

Bud of mine bought a Frontier in .243 for his 10 year old son. Sweet. Kids already harvested 2 hogs and a whitetail, his first season.

Yotes covered with 22-250

Love my 2 Rugers. The Hawkeye has the best factory trigger pull I've ever touched. The 25 is overlapped by the 22, so I'd suggest a 270 because they come with 22" barrels.

I have an M77 Mk II Hawkeye in .30-06. I love it. I have the all weather version with the stainless steel barrel and synthetic stock. It is a good gun and very solid. It is my second Ruger M77 Mk II. I get groupings that normally measure one inch and a half at 100 yards and that is with Federal Powershock (Federal's cheap stuff) ammo. I would heartily recommend a Hawkeye to any one. You can't go wrong with .30-06 either.

i have a tikka t3 .338 federal that has an awesome factory trigger. using 180 grain balistic tips is devastating to everything i have shot.... a bit off topic but it might get you to look into the caliber or possibly the rifles.... also to anyone who shoots factory ammo i reccomend reloading if your buget permits. im my opinion there is no feeling better than shooting a one hole group with your handloads.

What's not to like about the 77?

It's hard not to suggest a #1. I love my #1 RSI in 7x57.

Amen. I'd take a stock 77 tang safety over a Tikka any day too.

ive had many 700's but its just that i prefer a claw extractor and the safety on a 77 much more... i dont think that 700's have any problems with accuracy but 77's are smoother feeding.

I considered the .338 Federal before I purchased the .30-06. I chose the .30-06 due to the fact that it is cheaper and more plentiful than .338 Federal. I figured since I was sticking to factory ammunition that the .30-06 was the way to go. I do hope to see .338 Federal become more popular because I like the round. Reloading is indeed worthwhile. I have the equipment, but no room to set it all up.

Seeing as you already possess a rifle for large game, I would suggest a 77 in 7mm-08 or 6.5x55. Either caliber is somewhat mild in recoil. They both have a nice flat trajectory and they work well on deer.

i wish more people were aware of the 338 federal so that you could find reloading components easier for it(brass)but it seems that the 338 federal may be overshadowed bt the 338 ruger compact magun which has somewhat better ballistics
