New gen 3 G19
Well I took the plunge and got a Glock 19. I was looking for G23 but no love there.
This was NIB for $500. Heck I even managed to find 50 rounds of FMJ and a box of 20 JHP +p ammo for ccw. for it. Now I just need to get a few things for it. i.e. night sights, 3.5 pound connecter and at least one more mag since it only came with two. I need to get to the range and test it out.

Sweet man. G19s are pretty awesome. One of the most comfy guns I've carried. Do you have big hands? If so watch out for slide bite. Gets me every time -_-

No I don't have big hands. And as far as slide bite I learned a long time where not to put my hands.

Pretty good price, Okie. I think you'll really enjoy the gun over the years. My wife and I share one...actually it's hers but I use it from time to time as well. It's her night stand gun, and occasional carry piece as well. She completed Front Sight's 4-Day Defensive Hand Gun course last year with it as well. The trigger smoothed up with use and some Dremell polishing (there are plenty of U-Tube videos on how to do it). I bought a 3.5 # connector, but can see no difference between that and the stock Glock part after it was polished. You might give the polishing a try before spending some $.
The night sights are one improvement that are well worth the money in my opinion. If you're using the gun for HD or CCW, the add'l sighting ability offered by good tritium sights is a good idea. I've got them on a Sig 226 and P290 that convinced me that their worth it. I'll outfit both of the Glocks when I get some extra $. I also smoothed up and radius'd the frame just below the trigger guard, right where your knuckle rests. That tight radius was too small for the middle finger, but a 15 minute sanding session with a piece of 320 grit sandpaper cured the problem. In really long practice sessions the middle finger would almost blister from contact there before the mod. I also bought a set of Talon grip panel tapes for it...the knobby rubber ones...which we both like, though they increase the diameter of the grip slightly. With some practice, it isn't noticeable and really helps with defensive drills. You might check out Hickock45's videos on U-Tube for his recommendations... HTH's Rod

All a Glock 19 needs, is a lot of ammo and night sights. Nothing else.
Congrats. That's my main CCW. |

I learned a long time again to but unfortunately since my hands are large my regular grip causes the side to catch me every time. I have to reduce my grip or suffer a nasty cut.

okiewita40 congrats on your new gun. I have a G19 also. Paid about the same (pre-Newtown). My advice is forget night sights. For the price of night sights you can have a laser like this
I have one zerod in at 15 yards. Just aim and shoot. And you can still use the regular sight on a bright day.

I don't find aiming with a laser any faster than the sights, and I recommend aiming in both cases. Also a number of night sights are made with day shooting in mind and show up fine. For home defense I recommend a weapon light. Lots of good ones out there. But for low light situations such as parking lots night sights can be darn useful. Get the front dot center mass, pull trigger. Edit: Lasers can be very useful for folks that have difficulty focusing on the sights due to eyesight. Luckily I'm not there yet, but I imagine I will be some day.

congrats. I just got a g19 myself. I also did the connector and sight replacement. FYI when buying a 3.5 lb connector get a glock OEM one. Also look at XS big dot night sights. they're awesome and great for defensive use

To me you just bought the best versatile Glock for someone like me. Large enough for the range and small enough for full size carry. Just my size you might say! Congrats

I tried carrying a G19 but I found a holster too thick. I didn't know about this clip at the time. My friend uses it and is quite happy with it.
This is what I carry

^ You carry a gun without anything covering the trigger?

Thank you all for the congrats. I don't like the thought of a laser on my weapon. Just something else that can or will fail when I need it most. Night sights are always there and able to be used day or night. Used to have them on my weapon when I was on the CERT team. Think of a SWAT team inside a prison.
The one thing I am looking for the most right now is a decent IWB ccw holster. I can work with either right hand side or center of back. Any one have a recomendation for this?

As far as holster suggestions. I like the Crossbreed Supertuck. Essentially it's a hybrid between leather and kydex (can look at it on their website). Only downside is it takes a while to get it, especially with the recent buying frenzy. There are other similar options like the Galco King Tuk, Theis holsters, White Hat Holsters, etc.

What's your budget for the holster? IMO, which is low on the totem pole so take this advice or don't, I avoid small of the back holsters at all cost. If you have a large fall or get shoved very hard into a wall, maybe during an altercation, then that gun which is directly inline with your spine is going to do some real damage. As in it may break your back. I fractured 3 of my vertebra a few years ago and I'll swear on whatever you put in front of me that's its not something I'd want to go through again.

I guess I will forget about the COB carry then. Will just look for a decent holster for my strong side.

If you can swing the cash and actually find 1 you may be interested in a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2. IMO holsters are both an investment and a means of protection for your firearm.

My personal opinion is they are a gimmick, with few advantages for most people. But to each his own. Quote:

http://www.concealmentsolutions.com/blackmamba2.html It's a hybrid leather/kydex, similar to a Crossbreed. It's about the same price as a Crossbreed also, but he uses higher quality clips and leather. It's basically a one man shop, and he makes holsters as they're ordered. Best carry gun made, period. Wouldn't trade mine for anything.
I carry mine in a Desantis speed scabbard. Tried many holsters, and this one does the trick for me. |
