loading nosler varmageddon 55 gr oal ?
You guys that load nosler 55 gr varmageddon bullets for your AR 15, what OAL gives you the best accuracy ? I am loading them with 24.0 gr of H335 and a CCI #41 primer. I have found little difference when using 2.225 and 2.250 OAL. 2.250 seems to be a shade better. I am not sure why accuracy would be close using both OAL's.

What are your groups looking like? What are you expecting to get?

Is this from a 16" barrel? If yes then continue with that load.
4 MOA Accuracy is MILSPEC standard shooting 55g NATO ammo so your already doing pretty well. My AR also shoots at or under to 1 MOA at 100 yards with 40g Z-max but, with 55g FMJ's it's closer to 1.5-2 MOA.

I'm Not sure you can get much longer than 2.250" in an AR magazine? Anyway, that is the length I seat my Nosler Balistic Tip .223 ammo. Seems to shoot well for me at <1MOA. I have always been satisfied with that grouping!

2.24 so far, just started using Nosler BT bullets. Seems to work OK so far.
I will have to see what it does with a scope off a rest, rather than off the elbows with iron sights. |
