Marlin 60 bolt locks shut
Son has a Marlin 60. The bolt sticks shut. He took it apart yesterday and cleaned it really well. It still sticks- not as bad as when it was dirty- but it still sticks.
It seems to be fine until the extractors go into the two slots cut in the barrel. I think they're pushing the bolt up just a hair. I'm thinking of telling him to try filing the bottom of the extractors a little to fit. Anyone have a better idea? |

"Sticks shut" as in prevents the gun from functioning?
Or won't allow the bolt to be opened by hand? Changing the profile of the extractor(s) could cause feeding and ejecting problems.

A little grease on the hammer and bolt might help.

Are you sure the extractor cuts in the barrel are clean? If the recesses cut into the barrel have foreign matter in them, it could force the extractors up, and make the bolt hard to pull back.
The only way to really clean these, is to take the gun down, turn the receiver upside down, and after applying cleaner to both recesses, use a pick to dig out any dirt or foreign matter. A worst case, is removing the barrel to clean them. |

The extractor spring rides under the bolt body on model 60's if the spring is in wrong location, broke, or bent it could cause the bolt to seem to lock in the full battery position.
