Winchester 290 Question

A bud at work had one given to him by a widow.
He says it's marked " 22 S L CR LR"

"CR"??????????? Short for "Cartridge" maybe? But that would make only sense to me if at the end.....talked to two, gun store buds, they've never heard of it.

He's sure that's how it's marked as he wrote it down this morning.

Any theories?

Cr

I am unable to locate a CR rimfire. I'm thinking that the round is actually a CB Cap. The CR indicated on the rifle may be worn to obscure the bottom parrt of the "B" indicating that it is an "R"

Tell your Bud, to take a #2 graphite pencil. Color over the lettering on the gun. This should bring up the letters to be easier read. I am attaching the CB Cap information for your convenience.

Model 290 Chambering

The book I have, notes that the Model 290, is only chambered for the 22 Long and 22 Long Rifle cartridges interchangeably. The tube magazine holds either 15 or 17 cartridges, depending on which cartridge is loaded.

Nothing is mentioned about 22 short or "CR"?
