Underwood Ammo 155gr Gold Dot 10mm Ballistics Gel Test

I test out the Underwood Ammo 155gr Gold Dot 10mm load in the Clear Ballistics FBI gel block (calibrated to mfg specs) with 4 layers of denim with the Gen4 Glock 20 (factory spring).

Chrono Data (average):

1443 fps, 716 ft/lbs energy

155gr retained weight

.812 average expansion

13.5'' penetration

As you'll see in the video, the bullet holds up pretty well with only minor deformation.

I surprised to see the Gold Dot hold-up so well to approximately 1,400 fps. Very well presented video. I've seen the .45 "Long' Colt" 250 grain Gold Dot expand nicely at 750 fps in ballistic gelatin. Underwood seems to have come from nowhere to the top level along with Buffalo Bore. Good stuff. Thanks

I agree, pretty impressive. I have a couple 10mm Revolvers, a 610 and a 310 Night Guard. I have had the 610 for around 20 years. I have been carrying Winchester Silver Tips for carry ammo. Looks like these folks need a serious look. Full House 10mm is not a common offering with most ammunition makers. I have tested Remington 10mm ammunition what was moving slower than their offering in 40 S&W. Pitiful.

I am sure the reduced loading is to keep the damage down on the old SS Smith & Wesson 10 Series, and Colt Deltas. The Glock 20 is the only carryable semi auto that would handle a steady diet of Real Full House 10mm and stay together.

I've use a lot of it over the last couple years; it's always been consistent, good quality ammo. The 10mm load gets inconsistent velocities primarily due to the 17lb spring; on my Gen3 with a 20 or 22lb spring it gets much better readings.

My Colt Delta Elite from 1987 has fired nothing but full house 10mm...mostly PROLOAD Factory ammo. I have never had any parts failure but I do use a 22# spring.

10mm is awesome....I have taken Antelope in Wyoming at 100 yards with a one shot kill to the neck. Had a guy sighting his rifle in at 100 yards bet I couldn't hit a man sized target at 100 yards....that cost him $ 100...all 9 rounds hit the target in the torso ! 10mm drops less that 3 inches at 100 yards.

Too bad PROLOAD went out of the ammo business...they were the first US manufacture to make full house 10mm that matched Norma velocity and was much more accurate.

You should know while the Glock 21 is very shootable, the barrel is not heat treated. Put a Lonewolff barrel in it and enjoy a heat treated barrel with more case head support.

10mm has performed well. FBI agents didn't like it as too heavy in the S&W pistol and 10mm carriers were required to carry a minimum of 3 spare magzines.
