George - Weaver Mounts?

I am going to probably replace the Beuhler mounts on a couple of my rifles because the ring spacing is too long to use with some variable scopes.
I don't think anyone makes an extension ring for the Beuhler, but I am not sure if some like Leupold will fit.

If I replace them I am planning to use Weaver bases and rings. It appears to me that they are as strong as Redfield and similar mounts.

Have you had any trouble with Weaver mounts on magnum rifles? I haven't heard of any, but you no doubt mount many more scopes than many of us put together.

Anyone is welcome to comment.

Thanks,
Jerry

I build a lot of rifles where the client may be on a budget and prefer the less expensive Weaver mounts. I've never personally had a problem with them nor have I heard of anyone having problems. George

Ring alignment?

I wish I had remembered to ask this befokre.

I keep reading about the necessity of lapping the rings. I have mounted 7 variables and many more fixed power scopes. I have several friends who are gun nuts and they also have mounted several scopes over the years.

None of us has ever had any problem with alignment of the rings, and no one has had any scope marred or damaged as a result of ring misalignment.

Is this a real problem or is it a theoretical problem, and how prevalent? Or is the manufacturing sloppier than in the "old days?"

I would appreciate information from anyone who has experienced the problem.

Jerry

Weaver bases are used often with no problems. It is when one uses the Weaver rings problems occur. They will always dent your scope tube when cranked down tight.

If you go with Weaver bases, go with Burris Z rings or Millet angle locs on top the bases
