proper shotgun shooting technique and form

Hi all,

I know this would be no substitute for real training with a professional, but what resources/websites are out there on the Internet that contain information on proper shotgun shooting technique? I am new to shotgunning, and would like to learn some basic form techniques before I dive in head first. How about info on the following categories?

1. basic stationary target shooting
2. home defense situations
3. trap
4. skeet
5. other suggestions?

Thanks.

Chris

Over on TheHighRoad.org, there's a series of threads in the archives that form Shotgun 101. It's a primer for new shotgunners.

Use the advanced search feature, type in 101 for the subject, Dave McCracken for the author, and read.

I've read about half of your 101 posts this morning, Dave, and again all I can say is Wow! This information is priceless to someone just starting out in shotgunning like me. Thank you very much.

Anyone have a link? I can't seem to find it over there. one recamendation i have (I don't know if this is on the list) though is make sure to have an agressive stance, not a passive one. I've seen countless people standing straight up and they can't seem to hit a thing, once they change they seem to hit a lot more. Get a little leaned forward, one foot a little in front of the other and focus on hitting that bird.

Bonstrosity,

Here are just a few of the great technique-related threads by Dave...

Doing Your Homework 101...

Getting Into The Swing Of Things 101.....

Why We Miss 101....

Foot position and stance 101...

Enjoy!

To find all of his "shotgunning 101" threads, just do as Dave says above: Use the Advanced Search and enter "101" for the key word and enter "Dave McCracken" for the user name. I also used "Find Threads Started By User".

Good luck...

Thanks Chris,

I always feel it's fun to read up on some shooting technique. I always seem to learn something new to try next time at the range.

so what you want to do is, put the but of the SG about 3in from your shoulder, then fire rapidly. This works best with 3in slugs.
