Safety Glasses Over Rx Glasses

Just curious if anyone uses safety glasses that fit over their regular glasses while shooting? I was thinking about giving this a try and was curious what brands of glasses seemed to work best.

In the past I’ve had prescription safety glasses, but they are just too out of date to use anymore. I am going to be buying new prescription daily wear and sun glasses, so shooting glasses are just not in the budget right now.

It has been my experience that my regular prescription glasses are sufficient protection. I do own some of these http://www.radians.com/main/p-81-radians-chief.aspx that will go over my glasses and are sufficiently comfortable, though. Picked them up at Academy for something like five bucks. I've seen them online for less than that; however, by the time you add shipping costs, you probably wouldn't save anything.

Yes, initially I thought the same thing, but my new glasses just don’t provide a lot of coverage. I am not really sure how much of an issue it really is, but thought I might try to minimize the risk.

Then get the Radians Chiefs. If you don't like them, you can give them away. But I think you'll consider it $ well-spent.

I’ve actually order a decent looking pair from Amazon for eight bucks, but was just curious what others were using.

When I shoot.
Either "Uvex" or "MSA" has "Over the Glasses" (OTG) safety glasses. They are available with clear, smoke, & I believe, amber polycarbonate lenses. The temple pieces are adjustible and the fit my face and Rx glasses just fine. I have used them for many years on construction jobs & when shooting. They are ANSI Z87 approved.
Available through Grainger Industrial Supply as one source & are less than 10 bucks.

Until a shell casing goes in over the top. That happened to me once, and a friend burned a cornea that way.

Get your optometerist to give you a copy of your prescription, and you can order a pair of safety glasses online pretty cheaply. I got a few sets from Zenni Optical that work well for ~$35 a pair.

I went to Home Depot and bought a pair of safety glasses that slip over my regular glasses.

Then I found a company called Zenni Optical (http://www.zennioptical.com/) that makes really cheap glasses. If you look under the goggles, they have a lot of versions that will work for you. I got my a pair for right at $30, including shipping. It takes about two to three weeks to receive, but they work great.

I also have a pair of regular sunglasses from them.

+ 3 for Zenni Optical. My regular prescription glasses go for about $25.00 with Anti-scratch and UV coating and add about $10.00 for precription safety glasses.

I've also used Zenni ... but last time I was there I couldn't find any safety glasses ... thanks for the heads-up on them existing!! I'm en route to their site right now.

I'm a little late to the show here, but I really like the Escort Safety Glasses. I got em for about $10 and they do a good job of covering the side of my prescription glasses as well. They have them in plain, smoke & amber (smoke would probably be good for weedeating and other yardwork I guess).
I use the amber for shooting.

They may not fit well based on the size of your glasses though (mine are fairly small).

I went by the Zenni site and saw the goggles ... I had forgotten about those, but I had seen them before. I have two questions:

1. Which models have you purchased?
2. Do they look as funky in person as they do on their web site?

The pics of the normal frames seem pretty accurate, so I was just curious.

I have yellow lens. Model #702811. They don't look funky at all to me. Just a standard pair of wrap-arounds.

My only complaint is if you get sweat or water between the corrective lens and the safety lens, it can be a pain to clean, but otherwise, no issues at all.

Do some tests!
People who shot with scope with clear lens covers found that the covers were not quality like a scope and distorted the view with reduced accuracy resulting !!
Safety glasses are not like a prescription lens in my experience ,Just use the shooting glasses.
