Too Hot for a Ruger Blackhawk?

I recently loaded some 45 LC rounds for my new Blackhawk. I think I may have loaded too hot. Here is the load, 250gr HP, 8.6gr Unique. Does anyone have thoughts before I put these in my gun?

Thanks

This is a quick answer but I do not think it's a hot load...let me look it up.

Ok the Lyman 49th is as follows:

Unique @ 7.8-8.7 with the 250 gr HP Velocity 755fps-877fps
OAL is 1.590" and they used a Ruger Blackhawk 7 1/2"

Ok, so according to them it's near the hot side.

From what little bit of Googling I did, this sounds like kind of a middle of the road load for a Blackhawk.

Never start with loads that you do not KNOW to be safe. If you start low and work your way up then there will never be a question about your loads being safe.

Hodgdon lists 8.0 as starting load and 9.5 as max for Ruger/Freedom Arms and T/C guns ONLY.

That's a mild, 14,000psi load. If your BH is a new, small frame Vaquero, then lower power loads are advised. If you have an adjustable sight Blackhawk or a Bisley like I do, then they can expel 30,000psi loads. Do some searches on this section as there has been much discussion about 45s in various persuasions of Blackhawks.

That's nothing in a Ruger. I commonly load 10.0 gr of Unique with a 260 gr HP and it's just fine. The Speer book says you can go to 10.8 gr max with a 250 gr jacketed bullet in a Blackhawk.
