Steyr M95 bolt

I recently acquired a M95 Steyr carbine and I love it! However the bolt is works as hard as hell, so is there anything I put on it (oil, ect?) to make
It work easier? Or is that how all steyr's work?

from what I've read that's a M95 problem. you may try giving it the mosin nagant treatment and soaking it in hot water or mineral spirits to see if there is any grime stuck in it. I usually run all my guns wet with winchester CLP, stuff stinks but it does the job.

I am going to guess it is a worn extractor tail. What you are probably experiencing is the bolt head wanting to rotate while moving the bolt in or out. The extractor tail resists this rotation. It is a known weakness of this design and one of the reasons extractors are hard to find. I have a link on my home computer that explains it very well. It also has a work around of bending the worn extractor tail to help the little nub engage the recess in the bolt body. Not really a proper repair but may work. I will search for the link when I get home.

you will need to be familiar with bolt disassembly to further diagnose this one. Have you had the bolt out of the firearm yet? I am not suggesting that tou do that because if it is what I think it is the bolt head will want to rotate and you can't reinstall the bolt without manually rotating it back. Google "m95 dime trick". Worse case is the bolt head will jamb/get stuck while pulling it out of the receiver.

Well here is a link to a post on another forum that contains part of the website that explains the extractor adjustment. It worked on one of mine but does have a risk of breaking the extractor.

The link below has a copy that can be downloaded. Not sure how long that document will remain. In support of the copyright laws I won't copy and paste it here. I'll continue to search for the rest of the information that was contained on that website and post as I find it.
