336 Scope Mount

When shopping for a scope mount for my Marlin 336 the young man at Academy Sports showed me Weaver mount but it appeared that you could only use two of the four mounting holes in the top of the receiver, at least with what he showed me. Not knowing if this is correct (It doesn’t seem like it) I passed on the mount. There were two sets of mounting holes and it seemed like you could use it in several positions but it just didn’t seem like it would be secure enough using only the rear or forward mounting holes in the receiver. Was I shown the wrong piece or am I missing something.

Thanks
Mike

ALL Weaver scope mount bases have a part/model number on the bottom.

The correct Weaver base for a Marlin 336 is the # 63 one-piece base.
Even if someone is selling a base in a plastic bag/envelope with a #63 label, do yourself a favor & turn the base over & eyeball the underside.
