SVT40 front sight on 91/30 Mosin-Nagant?

I've got a 91/30 Mosin-Nagant that shoots way high. I know that the easy fix is to slip a piece of wire insulation over the front sight post to make it taller, but I really like how narrow the front sight post is, so I'd like to explore something.... slimmer.

I recently read that the SVT40 had a front sight much like the 91/30 Mosin-Nagant, but was adjustable vertically. Would an SVT40 front sight fit on a 91/30 Mosin-Nagant? I'm wondering if that might be a slicker solution than hacking up, drilling and tapping a 91/30 front sight. Of course, I've never even held a SVT40 in my hands, much less held the 2 rifles side by side, so I don't know it they would interchange. Does anybody on here?

SS Blair I have been hearing some good things about the SVT 40 Tula I'm thinking seriously about getting one instead of trying to get that Garand. Don't know much about her sights Going to do some supplemetal reading about her

My SVT front sight looks smaller than my mosins and what is worse is that the notching on the bottom of the SVT front sight is quite a bit larger than the mosin one. I guess you could do some grinding to make it fit.

That looks like the answer to my question; I was hoping that they might possibly be interchangeable, but it sounds like they are not. Will have to look for Plan C.

My Mosins shot 8 inchs high at 100 yards. I too didn't want to add to the front sight. So I lowered the rear sight.

It bottoms out at 100 so how do we do that. With the Mosin's sight radius we know that .0061 will move the elevation 1 inch at 100 yards. So if you are 8 inchs hight, 8 X .0061 is .0488.

I took the rear sight off my Mosin, turned it over and put it in a milling machine and cut it down, (from the bottom side) .0488. Put it back together and found its perfect for elevation, keeping all 10 rounds in the X-10 ring of the NRA 100 yard reduced target.

You'll never notice the sight has been cut down when you put it back on the rifle. You dont need a milling machine, you can do it with a file if you take care and dont get in a hurry.

Try one of these. Identical to original post but taller. Can be filed or ground to be dead on with correct rear leaf setting. e-mail me if interested.
