Flat spot on .45 acp cases.

I'm just getting started reloading . I have most of the equipment on hand ,
some on the way .
Today ,I went to the range and fired off a box and a half of Federal .45 acp
from a Springfield 1911 . After I got the brass home and inspected it , I
found a lot of them had a flat spot at the mouth . Is this normal ?
The Springfield fires great .
This is my first post on this forum .

If you look/stop this video, you will see how the ejecting case rotates out of the slide port and back toward the slide body. Depending on spring forces, power/load levels and slide inertia, you'll see how the cases can/do hit the rear edge of the slide cutout as they eject.

Yeah, the cases are hitting the ejection port on the way out. It doesn't damage the brass in any way. When you run the brass through your reloading die it will come out perfectly round and in spec. No harm done.

It's common with the un-modified SA ejection port.

When you re-size them most of it will go away, and anything left will go away when you flare them to load the new bullet.
