Navy Handgun Qualification Course - Official Target Size
Are there any Navy Range Officers here?
I need to find out what version of the B21 target the Navy uses for it's Navy Handgun Qualification Course. I've have been finding different sizes of paper targets and want to ensure I get the correct one. Some of the targets are here: http://www.pistoleer.com/targets/silhouette/index.shtml More are here: http://www.tjtarget.com/mall/silhouette1.ASP Thanks |

Which qualification course? for Expert Pistol ribbon/medal? For that, check with the folks in the armory, or with your personnel officer. If things haven't changed too much since I was in, the answer will be in the Small Arms Marksmanship Manual, NavPers 93863, complete with NSN, which might be 6920-00-554-5054, which is simply an NRA 25yd TF/RF bullseye target. But do check the manual - things change .
If you are talking about some other kind of qualification, ask the person who issues it. |

Good idea. I would check with the armory, except that I'm in the Reserves. I don't know who the armory POC is. But I'll find out.
I do have a copy of the Official Instruction. But the problem is finding multiple targets labeled B21 and they are different sizes. The new manual is OPNAVINST 3591.1D. It states: "The B-21 Target is available from various commercial sources. The B-21 Target used in Navy pistol qualification courses is the full-sized B-21 Target." So I guess that means the 35" x 45" target. I really wanted to practice the exact course. I know we'll get a chance to do it again this spring and I'd like to move up from marksman. I scored that about 15 years ago. |

NHQC Targets
If you still need this information or were unable to locate it, the Transtar II & B21 targets are still currently used for the Navy Handgun Qualification Course. The Transtar II can be located at Speedwelltargets.com, entering "US Treasury" under the search field. The Blue 24x40 is what we currently use. This is a versatile target because, as per the 3591.1E S.A.M.I. Manual, it can also be used for our Handgun Practical Weapons Course, Fam-Fire and Sustainment shoots.
Please contact me if you have further questions. R/ GM2 |
