I am wondering what are the differences between mossberg 500 and 590 besides the price.

besides the tube capacity & the lack of the bayonet lug available on the 590A1...
the 500 has an inventory of swappable barrels...

590 is a one trick 9 shot 12 gauge pony

I think the safety and trigger guard on the 590 is metal (aluminum at least) as opposed to the plastic of the 500 (correct me folks if I'm wrong). A few other parts may be different. The easiest way to find out is to get a parts list for both guns. That'll tell you what is interchangeable. Always wanted to go to their armorer school, but it's even more elusive than Colt's.

ASIDE FROM SOME INTERNAL DIFFERENCES THE 590 IS EXACTLY WHAT ONE PREVIOUS REPLY INDICATED. SIMPLY A 500 JACKED-UP AND ON STEROIDS. HIGHER CAPACITY, BAYONET LUG (ON WHICH WILL FIT ANY M-16/AR-15 BAYONET) AND AN ASSORTMENT OF VERSIONS ARE ALSO OTHER DIFFERENCES. GHOST RING SIGHTS, SPEED-FEED STOCKS ETC. THE 590 PASSED ALL THE REQUIRMENTS OF THE MILITARY AND BLEW-OUT ALL OTHER ENTRIES. HAVING OWNED ONE AND USED IT EXTENSIVELY I CAN STATE THAT IT IS ONE TOUGH PIECE.
