50gr Barnes Varmint Gernade 1:14 twist rate

I recently loaded some 50gr Barnes Varmint Gernade bullets in my 1:14 twist rate Rem 700.

When testing the load I could not find where I hit the target. I was shooting at a standard 100yrd rifle target held with a 2X4 target holder I made.(Holds the target at about 32" from ground to center of bulls eye.) Range was 100yrds. Rifle was sighted in with 50 gr factory ammo. I then decided to get an old piece of 24"X4' roofing tin and place in behind my target. To my supprise the bullet was hitting the ground about 6 feet in front of the target.

The windage was dead on. lol

I start looking into to this problem.... My load data came from the Barnes Website. Listed below.

.22-250 Remington

Bullet Weight: 50 gr Case Trim Length: 1.902" S.D. 0.142

Bullet Style: Varmint Grenade Primer: Fed GM210M B.C. 0.183

COAL: 2.350" Barrel Length: 25"

Case: Winchester Twist Rate: 1:14"

Charge Velocity Charge Velocity Load

Powder (grains) (fps) (grains) (fps) Density (%)

• IMR4895 32.0 3662 35.0 3873 90
H414 38.0 3619 41.0 3903

Then I look on the box of Barnes bullets...... Twist 1:10" or Faster

What gives????
Is the twist rate in their load information a typo?

I guess I will pull the bullets and use them in my 223 with a 1:9" twist rate.

I'm not sure where you got your loading data but pulled this up from Barneas site and they give warning

about the 1/10 twist barrel

The bullets are lead free. Though they weigh 50 grains they are closer in bearing surface to a 60+ grain bullet. Hence the need for faster rifling. It probably says 1in10 or faster rifling on the box. The boxes I have seen all say that right under the bar code.

Under the 50gr bullet their load data list a 1:14" twist.

Oh well...

Bought some 36gr bullets for the 22-250. Gonna pull the 50gr bullets and use in the 223
