Noveske barrel & switchblock?
I just got a 10.5" Noveske barrel and switchblock combo in and I can't remove the dowel pin they used to pin the block on. Any ideas? I have to remove the block to get the barrel nut on.

Had a miserable time removing my gas block from my Noveske 21" .308 barrel as it took nearly 3 days, several broken punches, and lot of yelling and screaming. However, I found the solution...freeze your barrel over night for a good 12+ hours. Place your frozen barrel in a good heavy vice wrapping a towel around it so you won't scratch the finish. Let the ice start to thaw from the barrel, then strike the gas block pin with a high quality punch and a heavy hammer. You should get lots of movement from the pin making it very easy to remove the gas block. I have been working on AR's for years and will have to admit as I almost threw the towel in on it before trying to freeze the barrel. Next time I buy a barrel from Novekse, I will call them and ask to remove the gas block before shipping it. Good Luck.
