1911s and XTP C.O.L.s?

I have had flawless feeding and reliability with 200 gr. LSWCs at 1.250" and 230 gr. FMJ/TMJs at 1.260" in my Springers and LBC, but I have not tried any of the other truncated bullets yet.

I just landed a couple boxes of 200 gr. and 230 gr. XTP HPs in a trade but before I start working them up I was wondering what the concensus is on C.O.L.s of these two bullets for reliable feeding in 1911s.

I've loaded 200 & 230gr XTPs for my Springer G.I. at 1.245" and have never had a feed problem as of yet.

My thought is to load one dummy round that fits into the magazine, then see if it will feed and chamber off the top of a loaded mag.

If it does, good, if not seat it deeper until it does.

If it will at all. If it won't, it will be because of feed ramp problems, not OAL.

It varies with the gun, but keep them out as far as you can and still have them feed and not jamb into the throat so deeply that the bullets will stick out beyond the back of the barrel extension (hood) of the barrel. Remove the barrel from the gun and use it as a gauge to check that.

The deeper you seat, the higher the pressure from any fixed powder charge will be. That's the reason it is unwise to seat too deep.
