I am using the MGI buffer on my .223 and 9mm shorty.

I have used the AAC but could never get the reduced power spring to chamber a round properly.

Not in an M16, but I've had positive experiences with the AAC buffer. I use it in my TASK-style slow-fire M11/9.

I also had problems in an AR15/9mm when using a suppressor and a 16" barrel. I was getting a lot of bolt-over malfunctions. Apparently the back pressure from the long barrel and the can were cycling the bolt too fast, even with a heavy 9mm buffer. I pulled the AAC buffer out of the M11 and the AR ran fine after that. Now I have one for each of them.
