Barrel Nut Question
How hot does the barrel nut on an ar15 get after say a mag dump? I ask because I have the Magpul MOE handguards and they have some play in them, but adding electrical tape to the side that contacts the teeth of the barrel nut removes the play entirely. I dont want the tape to melt or catch fire and for there to be a sticky mess in my handguards.

I use electrical tape all the time at work ( construction ) . I've noticed just moderate heat can make electrical tape get gummy and want to slide on it's self . Not sure that's your best option . I do not have a recommendation but I would not recommend elec tape . I'm sure somebody here has had this problem and has a great fix .

I've tightened up wobbly handguards before by wrapping Teflon tape around the barrel nut. It's got a high heat resistance, is not adhesive, and you can wrap it slowly until you get your desired level of tightness on the handguard.
