New to Ar-15/M-4 Platform...looking for upper.

I was given a Magpul lower as a debt payment and I am looking for the least expensive new or used upper in .223 I can find.

Any leads?

Palmetto State Armory has a sale right now. I have no personal experience with them and don't own an AR, but I have read very positive reviews about the quality of their AR parts.

This, and then add a BCG and a charging handle for about $400 total.

It looks like Cam beat me to the link, but they do not come with everything that you need, which is why I added the last part.

Here is another option; a DPMS oracle upper from midwayusa.com.

Wow those look great!! I have about $300 and cheap 9mm to sell. I think those look good. Are they chrome lined with a forward assist? I do not want a tack driver. just a holo sight and 3" groups at 100 yards.

An actual, real deal Magpul lower?

Damn, sweet deal! There were only a couple dozen made!

Yes, that DPMS is a complete upper. Slap it on, push the pins in, and go to the range. However, it is not a chrome lined barrel. IMO, the chrome lined barrel is not a necessity, but some may disagree.

The PSA does have a chrome lined barrel, and once you order the other things to go with it you will probably be slightly above the cost of the DPMS.

Both do have a forward assist and dust cover.

What does chrome lining do?? just anti rust? I live in verry dry climate so unchromed is probably fine right???

I have been around guns my whole life. just new to the platform.

That's what I was thinking!!! There were a very limited run for friend and family. Extremely rare and VERY expensive if you can find one.

If it's just your grips that say Magpul, then it's not the lower. The lower will be identified by the rollmark.

PSA makes a nice, inexpensive complete upper. Bravo Company for one that is a bit higher end. Spike's if you can find one. Lot's of options depending on what your use is going to be.

"Cheapest complete upper"=DPMS or DelTon. Just make absolutely sure you're getting the bolt carrier group(BCG) with the upper since there are places selling uppers with fine print saying"BCG not included". This adds another $125-150 to the total cost.
Considering the interest shown already, you might be ahead to sell the lower and buy a complete rifle.

You are probably referring to the Magpul pistol grip and stock. Just from looking at it, it looks like you have the Magpul MIAD grip and PRS stock, if I'm not mistaken.

The lower will be marked over the magazine well. Just look at it when you get the chance and it will tell you what lower receiver it is. either way, it looks like you're off to a good start!

If you have a real Magpul China Girl lower it's worth a lot. I agree with the others, you probably just have their pistol grip and stock. It's unlikely anyone would trade off a real CG at a standard price.

As for what the lower is, by federal law the builder's name and state must be on the lower, unless it originally was an 80% receiver.

Budda, with a PRS stock, I would not go with the cheapest 16" upper that I could find. That stock is meant as a precision stock (and is fairly heavy compared to most AR stocks), and as such I would like to have an upper that would balance it out. I would put an upper with at least a 20" heavy (bull) barrel on it, and I might even look for a 24" barreled upper.

I'm with allaroundhunter about using a 20" barred upper. That lower is a great start on a precision build. A Rainier Arms flat top upper with a 18" mini sass barrel would be nice.

Here's the mini sass but it's in a A2 upper.
