Question on Remington shot gun

Thinking about a remington 12 ga model 887. Are they any good? How do you like it?

They are crap... Fit, finish, and function is inferior to an 870 or Mossberg 500... Save your money and buy something else...

No first hand experience, but I cannot think of a single reason to choose one over an 870. They really had to work at it to make a gun that ugly. I understand that they are trying for corrosion resistance, but the rubber coated barrel literally looks like a piece of 2" water pipe with the coating over the barrel.

I am going to use the 887 on varmints . I know the 870 is a very good gun , but the 887 has the same trigger working as the 870. To me it looks like a 870 that is covered .

Just because a certian model of a gun has the same parts does not make it better or the same as the model the parts were taken from.

Example: 870 Wingmaster and the 870 Express. The Wingmaster operates very smoothly and the Express is like the action is full of rocks.

887 for varmints? thats a really interesting concept. I'm curious what your version of Varmints consist of? ( I have no clue where you are located )

Usually something like a .223 to provide some distance, an accurate measure and hey some practice ; is more applicable.

Honestly, if you are using the 887 for some sort of close range pest it certainly is not going to fall apart.. but for the cash, why not have the better gun? = 870

OK I went with the 870 with chambered in 3 1/2 express with a black synthetic stock and has a full choke , 26" barrel. I called a gun smith and he said that there is no difference in the internal parts in a express and a wing master. The finish and the wood on the stock is the difference. And where I live there is very heavy bush and a lot of coyotes . I have a remington 223 . I just want something to hunt them in the heavy brush. All so a friend gave me 16 boxes ( 25 in box) of 3" & 31/2" shells from #6 to BB size.

great choice. I am nailing off coyotes on my land with a 2 3/4" 870 fully dressed by Magpul with a detachable clip conversion, full adjustable stock, custom lighting , laser etc. i LOVE it for this

I agree with your gunsmith. I've used Wingmaster and Experss shotguns. Other than cheaper wood and polished metal there is no difference in performance. On a hunting gun I'd rather have the Express. If I'm going to pay the $700 they want for the Wingmaster I'll put a little more with it and buy a Beretta or Benelli.

I have both a Wingmaster and Express. Aside from the Wingmaster's better finish they both seem to be identical. They function exactly the same.
