.22 Long Rifle?
Hey guys, I've been wondering what is the diameter of .22 lr bullets? I've always assumed they were the same as 22 center fire ammo, but to be honest, I don't know.
Thanks in advance! |

Nominally .223"
But, RWS used to make their Midas match ammo in TWO diameters, labelled "M' and "L". My grand dad's old Remington would only shoot the "L" stuff to about 1 MOA, with the "M" stuff going more like 2 MOA. So, I suspect that RF bores do vary.

If .223, then does that mean they are 1 thou smaller than centerfire, .224 ?

Yes, and no. Theoretically, .22 LR projectiles should be .222" to .223", but they aren't that consistent. You'll see everything from .220" to .225".
Not to mention - the .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle use heeled bullets.

Does this mean that we can use the same cleaning brushes? Or should we use "worn" .224 centerfire brushes? This is what I do now, since .22 rimfire bores seem tighter.
Opinions? |

.001 won't make a bit of difference with your brushes. Heck I use a worn 45 brush on my 9's.
