Ati wire stock removal legal?

Can I remove wire portion of stock and still be legal?

As long as the overall length is at least 26" it's legal under federal law.
I don't think removing it is a very good idea, though.

M1 stock

Overall length is 27 inches, measured from bottom of pistol grip to end of barrel. Why don't you think it would be a good idea? Wire stock removes with 4 simple screws and is easily reattached.
