Hey Darkgael,
Since we had that discussion I have discovered the 174 grain .45Slim slug, and shot my best 3 shot group off the stix at 50 yards with it (measured .45 inch center to center!). That is going to be my coyote slug. Also, there could be another bigbore airgun hog hunt going on in April or May if you are interested. Check the hunts section of hardcorebigbore.com for info. |

I've got a new Gamo Whisper which is both accurate and deadly. However, since it's probably illegal to use it in my neighborhood, I only shoot it at the range. However, I've heard there's a lady in the neighborhood who's taken out over a hundred Tree Rats with an air rifle.
In my neighborhood, tree rats are like the plaque.

This thread got me reading through all my old airgun books and before long i'm spending money
I've 2, .22 RWS air rifles, the 54 sidelever and the 350 break barrel. I had many issues with scopes that couldn't take the recoil but ended up with a bushnell banner 4x12x44 on one and a leapers 6x "bugbuster" illuminated on the other. Leapers mounts with both and i finally had 2 scopes that could take the "kick" without busting. Problem i found though, was the guns were too accurate for the fairly low power scopes on them. Couldn't see the squirrels eye at 35 yards to hit it. So a new banner, 6x18x50 with appropriate mount, and a leapers 4x12x44 30mm illuminated with AO sidewheel and it's mounts are on their way. Look very forward to messing with them once deer seasons out and squirrels are in..J.R. |

It seems that, around here, most air guns are used for pest control. For such pests as squirrels, rats, pigeons, etc.

There was a time when they were more powerful than any powder burning rifles on the market! Used a team of bearers to pump them, too...

That's amazing. 500ft/lb is about the same as a .357sig. All air powered. I never knew such a thing existed. You learn something everyday.

I don't see anything about the noise level. They appear to be sub-sonic so I'm guessing they're not terribly loud?

Wow! Not quiet are they. Dropped that thing like a rock. I can't believe I've never heard of these things. I seriously thought Gamo was about the end-all be-all of air rifles.

As a proud "gamo man" I admit they are the cat's meow (or howl if the case may be) of *bb guns*... But I was amazed to see these BIG BOY, pull up yer under roos, drop BIG GAME, real him-a-knockers...

Smaller airguns are quiet because they don't release a lot of energy. The more powerful ones will ring your ears just like a firearm.

Not sure if they are legal to hunt with here in Indiana, guess i need to check th regulations. Use my Crossman Classic pistol to shoot rabbits in the garden. Hunt the ocasional squirrel that gets into the attic. Once shot a grackle that had gotten into the house. Shot it in my livingroom, wife told me in no uncertain terms that had better not happen again lol.

would a suppressor be legal for an air rifle, since they are not considered firearms?

I've looked on a NY gov website about hunting and nothing was said about air rifle hunting. I hunt frequently with my air rifle. So much that I ordered 1800 pellets and they should be here today.
Good thing about hunting here with an air rifle, you dont need a hunting license. |

Smallgame, You really need to investigate that... I know of no place where you can take game without a license. Even bare handed...

Call your F&G dept. and ask them to look into it. The florida game website is real easy to use and has a Q&A section as well as very helpful workers if I need to call.

This whole thing about using a suppressor on an airgun has recieved a lot of discussion on the internet over the years.
Appearently suppressors on airguns are common in other countries. One thing I know for sure is that if the suppressor can come off the airgun, then it COULD be used with a cartridge type gun and is therefore covered by the NFA. I recently read something on-line (meaning it could be total BS) about airguns with integral suppressors being OK without getting a tax stamp. If I was you I would look into this suject long and hard before I made any moves unless you simply buy it as a legal suppressor and get the required tax stamp to avoid any possible conflict.
